Music City Qualifier

Illinois HPSTL 18 Select made history over the weekend by becoming the first ever Illinois HP team to earn a bid. In the inaugural season of the Illinois program, having a team qualify at a national qualifier is extremely promising for the future.

18 Select swept their day 1 pool to take over the number one seed overall. Day two was more challenging as they had to win two challenge sets, including a 26-24 thriller, in order to break a three way tie to advance. In the Gold bracket, one team already had a bid, so there was a trickle down opportunity. Ultimately, when 18 Select won their first match of the day in a great three-setter, they punched their ticket to Nationals in Dallas with a 4th place finish!

MEQ #1

MEQ in St. Louis hosted 12s and 13s, where twelve HPSTL teams competed for bids. While no teams earned a bid, nine of the twelve teams improved their starting seed, which will give them a better chance to qualify at their next qualifier.

13 White was the most successful HPSTL team on the weekend as they had a .778 win percentage and moved up ten spots from their starting seed. They also finished the weekend on a high note by winning their Diamond bracket finals over 13 Orange in the American division. It was a great send off for Coach Sammi McCloud as she begins her college coaching stint at Indiana State University this week!

The 12 and 13 Royal teams also finished strong, as both teams finished in the Top 15. 16s,17s, and 18s will be competing at MEQ 2 in Indianapolis next weekend!

Local Events

Various High P teams competed in local tournaments last weekend and brought home medals. At the 18s tournament on Saturday at Missouri Baptist, 17 Royal went undefeated on the day to win the championship over 16 Royal and give them their only loss of the day. 17 Orange took third after an exciting three set semifinal match against 16 Royal where all sets were deuce scores.

At the 16s tournament on Saturday at C4, 15 Royal took first place, Illinois 15 Select and 16 Orange took 3rd. Illinois 14 National, Illinois 16 Future, and 15 Orange also finished in the Gold bracket! In the Silver bracket, Illinois 152 Select beat 14 Royal in the finals. Congrats ladies on a great tournament!
