Boys Winter Volleyball Championships

HPSTL sent eight boys teams to Chicago for this year's Boys Winter Volleyball Championships and six teams were able to bring home bids. This was the most successful BWVC tournament that HPSTL has ever attended. New this year is the USA Division for boys volleyball. The USA division is a second qualifying division for Boys Junior National Championships instead of the typical Open and Club Divisions.

18 Orange, 17 Orange, and 16 Orange all competed in the USA Division. 18 Orange and 17 Orange each earned bids before being knocked out of Gold in a three set match. 16 Orange was eliminated from Gold on a tiebreaker, but finished the weekend with an impressive 6-2 finish.

14-18 Royal all competed in the Open Division with 18 Royal, 17 Royal, 15 Royal, and 14 Royal all earning bids. 18 Royal went undefeated on the weekend for a 1st Place finish and 14 Royal won their last eight matches in a row to hoist the 1st Place trophy. 15 Royal and 17 Royal were knocked out in the quarterfinals after dropping three set matches and 16 Royal finished 20th with four of their five losses coming down to tie-breaking sets.

Team Record Finish
B18 Royal 9-0 1st Place (Open Bid)
B18 Orange 7-1 3rd Place (USA Bid)

B16 Royal 2-5 20th

KC MLK Girls Qualifier

Girls 18 Royal brought home the first girls bid of the year as they finished 2nd in Open with a 7-2 record. The team was a heavy favorite in the tournament and backed up their reputation by grinding through a tough field for one of the two bids that were available!

Girls 18 Orange also finished 7-2 on the weekend, which was good enough for a 4th place finish in the USA division. Unfortunately that put them 1 spot outside of bid contention. In the third place match, they fell in three sets by the narrowest of margins. Their next bid opportunity will be in Nashville in a few weeks.

Gateway League #1 (11s and 12s)

Our 11s and 12s opened up their Gateway League on January 13th and all of the HPSTL teams found their footing over the course of the weekend. Girls 11 Royal continued their success from last week's tournament victory by completing a 5-0 weekend. The rest of the 11s teams all finished with at least two wins a piece as well.

Girls 12 Royal and Orange both finished 4-1 on the weekend, while 12 White and Gray finished 3-2. The boys 11s stole the show by winning their last three matches to pull out a winning record, while boys 12 Royal and Orange competed hard for a pair of wins.
